NEWS: "Where Rivers Meet" ensemble short-listed for the 2009 Parliamentary Jazz Awards: Ensemble of the Year.....!!
Zoe's ALBUM, 'Where Rivers Meet', a collaboration with her brother, clarinetist Idris Rahman, is now available through Paypal/iTunes - please go to the 'shop' page.
The album features Winston Clifford on drums and Jeremy Brown on bass and was recorded and mixed in one day at The Premises, London. All seven tracks on the album were written and arranged by Zoe Rahman and engineered by Josef Leach. Unfortunately the original artwork was lost and so a brand new cover design was commissioned from Yann Binet, the young French multi-media designer who created the sleeve for 'Melting Pot'. "A strong, thought-provoking debut" Independent on Sunday. "One of the best jazz albums of the year" Straight No Chaser. RECENT REVIEWS: Jazz UK, June/July 2008, by Chris Yeates: 'DAZZLING INTERACTION was the signature of pianist Zoe Rahman's trio on its concert at Newcastle University's King's Hall.....' Birmingham Post (5-star review, Nov 2007), by Peter Bacon: 'The trio music was superb and would have made for a great evening; the new interpretations of the Bengali songs, and the addition of Idris and Kuljit, made it a sublime one. By feeding Bengali popular songs through the jazz mixer, the Rahmans have introduced a rich new kind of Anglo-Asian music - long may they explore it'. "...she more than justified the hype" The Scotsman, 4-star review, Mon 30 Oct 2006 "A remarkable pianist by any standards...her style is distinctively her own" Dave Gelly, The Observer, 4th June 2006 "The [British Jazz] renaissance involves a new generation, including the talented pianists Zoe Rahman and Andrew McCormack"; Mike Zwerin, April 2nd 2006 "She's a man! She's just grown in strength over the years"; Clark Tracey, interviewed in Jazzwise magazine, April 2006 "..the brilliant young pianist who is finally beginning to receive the acclaim she deserves..." Kerstan Mackness, Time Out London March 2006 (full preview on Press page). Melting Pot brims with top-notch composition, interaction and soloing. A raw, percussive musician, she wrenches emotion from every track...One of the most distinctive British piano trio albums in a while."; Tom Barlow, Jazzwise magazine (Feb 2006) OTHER NEWS: See www.reemkelani.com for more details on the recent release of singer Reem Kelani's stunning album Sprinting Gazelle: "The piano, enchantingly played by Zoe Rahman, sometimes is reminiscent of the work of Aziza Mustafa Zadeh, at other times touching upon the style of Ziad el Rahbani...."Tariq Shadid, Musical Intifadah website review (Feb 2006). "..Zoe Rahman's piano has a deliciously sombre quasi-classical feel. Combined with the often cantor-like quality of Kelani's voice, it creates poignant echoes of Jewish klezmer music at its most reflective."; Mark Hudson, The Telegraph (Feb 2006) See www.clarktracey.com for more details on the recent release of the album The Mighty Sas: "Zoe Rahman, a Perrier Young Jazz Award winner, must be one of the finest young pianists in Europe."; Dave Gelly,The Observer.
